OPERATIONS

The Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission is a good neighbour. Located close to residential developments, the Operations Centre, which houses administration offices, a laboratory, a control room and a workshop, was designed to blend harmoniously with the architecture of the neighbourhood. The landscaping complements the natural surrounding ecosystem and provides pleasant visual screening.

CONTROL ROOM

The Greater Moncton Wastewater Treatment Facility is controlled by a fully automated system. Throughout the facility, video cameras, computers and software enable supervisors to monitor and adjust the entire operation electronically, not only from the central Control Room, but from virtually any computer-accessible location on or off the site.

SAMPLING

Quality control is an important consideration in a wastewater treatment facility. At various stages in the treatment process, samples of wastewater are collected from the stream for testing.

SERVICE TUNNEL

The Greater Moncton Wastewater Treatment Facility occupies a large site in an exposed location. One unseen feature is that the buildings and below ground equipment rooms are linked by underground service and utility tunnels that allow convenient indoor access throughout the facility for maintenance and repairs, regardless of the weather.

LABORATORY

Wastewater samples are tested in an on-site laboratory. Technicians perform various analyses to determine process information such as the percentage of solids being removed from the wastewater. They also monitor the entire sewerage system to ensure that users comply with municipal bylaws regulating the disposal of contaminants.
